In an increasingly polarized world, conversations about critical issues are getting more difficult to navigate and understand. With the next COP30 coming up in Brazil in late November, what climate issues and policies will be at the forefront of the discussion? This year's summit marks the halfway point to the goal of 2030 that was pledged in the Paris Agreement in 2015. Many countries are updating their Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) or climate plans. However, the U.S. has faced a rocky few transitions with climate policy due to changes in administration and interaction with other foreign powers. How does the current international affairs affect the way that different countries interact and negotiate with one another? Join the International Policy program for an event with former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta for a discussion on this issue. John Podesta served as Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy from 2024 to 2025 and will be able to give valuable insight into climate policy and how current foreign affairs play a role in upcoming climate policy. Please note that this event is open to current UC students only. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact iopevents@uchicago.edu.
